InternsInterns take part in our music, dance and theatre programs and invest part of their time helping in practical jobs in the Aslan Centre and teaching some basic levels. They will also have the opportunity to audicion for the shows we will have going on. This is a great opportunity for young people, from 17 year olds, who will be able to advance in their artistic education, experience a new culture, learn about the spiritual situation in Europe, grow in understanding of the creative gift from a Christian worldview, pick up the Spanish language and contribute to the advancement of the ministry God has called us to do in the arts in this continent. Teachers needed: - A music teacher who would be teaching piano and music theory, and who would also take the responsibility for the music department. This would mean working together with two or three other music teachers. This person would need to have a music degree with a specialisation in piano and it would be helpful if he/she had a masters. Right now we have 75 music students. -A ballet teacher with some knowledge of other dance disciplines who would also be teaching dance and would be responsible for the whole dance department. -A drama instructor who could help implement the theatre program. -Two actors with ability for teaching children and with some skills on stage management, props, lighting. People with other skills -A business administrator with skills in fundraising, grants and administration. -A person with secretarial and administration skills. -A person with computer skills, web design, etc. -One dancer-choreographer. -Three dancers. -One stage manager. -One costume designer and tailor. -One technical director. -One art instructor. -One sound and light tech, and operator People for practical and logistic help e.g. transport, maintenance, accommodation, errands, etc. -A couple with some artistic background and a heart to disciple artists and non-conventional people and willing to give a hand wherever needed. Short time volunteers for the summer camp -One of our main outreaches to the community is through the urban summer camp in which we have artistic related activities like, music classes, dance classes, art workshops, theatre classes, handicrafts, outings and visits to museums. The camp is for children from 4 year olds to 14 and our aim is to implement in a practical way moral and spiritual values that will help open the way for the communication of the gospel message. We have had volunteers coming from different Christian universities, churches and organizations in the UK, Germany and the USA, they are people with a background in those artistic disciplines who offer their time to work with us for a short time. It has worked really well and the students who participated in the camp, all of them non-Christian people with prejudices against Christianity, not only had a great and wonderful time learning about the arts, but were very touched by the Christian love, dedication and commitment from the teachers and instructors. This urban summer camp takes place from June 23 to July 30. We need about 10 volunteers to work on the music, dance and theatre workshops as well as in handicrafts, games, outings, and in some practical and logistic help. Basic Spanish would be good though it will not be absolutely necessary depending on the activity. Volunteer professors and instructors -We have a faculty of Christian professors and instructors who are willing to give of their time voluntarily to help in the development of our summer programs. They are people with music, dance, theatre and arts backgrounds and education, who would be coming to give workshops, courses, master classes and recitals in the spring and summer breaks. These can take the form of a one or two week courses, a weekend workshop or master class, conference or recitals, etc. Opportunities: * A- Summer theatre seminar: We offer students and theatre artists a week long seminar on Spanish classical theatre. It takes place in a city that has one of the very few 17th. Century theatres in Europe: "Un Corral de Comedias". Almagro, which is the name of the city, is only a few kilometres away from Madrid, and the seminar is organized by The Universidad de Castilla la Mancha, one of the major universities in Madrid, with which we work in partnership. It is part of a one month Classical Theatre Festival and there are about 25 different professional companies coming from all over Europe. The seminar includes tickets to two different shows, visits to the 17th. Century theatre and other historical buildings, as well as participating in question and discussion groups with some of the companies performing in the festival. There will be two introductory sessions on Spanish classical theatre at the Aslan centre the two previous days of the seminar. The university offers credits to those attending. It is also a great opportunity for us as Christians to get in contact with the non-Christians in the theatre world, in a pre-evangelistic kind of work. The seminar takes place from July 5th. to 9th. But the festival itself goes on for over a month. B-Music summer classes: -We offer master classes, seminars and workshops on Spanish and European composers, Spanish classical music, music history, flamenco music improvisation, as well as flamenco dance for musicians. C-Dance intensives and summer workshops: -We have workshops and master classes on Spanish and flamenco dance as well as ballet for dance students. These classes are offered for beginners as well as for advanced students. Our teachers and instructors are people like Elvira Andrés, dancer and former artistic director of the Spanish National Dance Company; as well as people from the Madrid Dance Conservatory and the Carlos III University, which we also work in close partnership with. As part of this program, students will be taking part in a 24 hour dance marathon that takes place every year in one of the biggest theatres in Madrid. It is an opportunity for most of the dance schools from all over Spain to have a show case for their work. D-Art summer classes These are art appreciation classes for art, music, theatre and dance students, with prominent Christian artists, which include a guided visit to three of the most important museums in the world: The Prado, The Tysen-Bornimiza and The Qeen Sofía, what is commonly called the golden triangle. These programs include -An introduction to the history and advancement of the gospel in Spain, which includes sightseeing of some of the historical landmarks. -Teachings on the Arts in Missions. They consist of four sessions, followed by discussion times, in which we will be dealing with the post-Christian European situation, and it´s mindset. We study and pray and engage in conversation on issues like, ways in which we can still keep a dialogue with a religiously apathetic society, the role we can play as Christian artists in this context, the creative imagination and the nature of the creative gift. * All of these programs could go from one to four weeks.
